Jobs/FLAC Conversion

All Done Now, as much as I can, anyway; see the Conclusion for full details

In a nutshell, I want all the music on the NAS (delight) to be FLAC-encoded, especially that which is currently Vorbis-encoded.

There are quite a few which I bought in MP3 form; obviously, they must stay as they are. There are others for which FLAC may be overkill (a few radio comedies, that sort of thing). I might organise them differently anyway; for now they are FLAC-encoded regardless, because it was easier being consistent - I may come back to that.

The main thrust of this is to convert the Ogg Vorbis files to FLAC, so I'll detail (and fix) that first.

Ogg Vorbis

My old preferred format, now kinda superfluous - I have plenty of storage, so I can store the primary copy of a song losslessly; anything else I can transcode from that without compounding lost information.

Missing Albums

I'm kinda discovering these as I'm going along - no easy shell one-liner to find these, unfortunately. An awful lot of the 'free CDs' from magazine covers, or sampler CDs, amongst others are not here, and may remain that way. Others, I'll record here.

• All Stevie Ray Vaughan's albums except Texas Flood were missing (and his name was mis-spelt "Stevie Ray Vaughn" for that); fixed in FLAC form
• Jeff Buckley's Grace
• One of the Lyndon Anderson Band albums
• "Clannad - Landmarks", which I bought but apparently never ripped
• Coldplay's Parachutes, which I vaguely remember quite liking - no idea why I didn't rip it
• The Very Best of Elvis Costello
• Coverdale/Page single
• Cheap Trick's "At Budokan", only the second disc was missing (?!)

I'm giving up on these; there's all sorts missing. Del Amitri had one song ripped, Duran Duran was missing a disc and an album; I'll just fill in what I can as I go along.

Missing CDs

So I have a few empty CD cases with no idea where the actual CDs are. Which kinda sucks.

Some of these are in OGG format (all so far, but I'm giving myself space for ones which are already FLACced.

  • I think I borrowed this from Danny, back in the day; should probably get rid of it
  • Deleted it - never really took to it

  • Another one I think I borrowed from Danny
  • Ordered a second hand copy - I'll keep the OGGs until it arrives and I can rip it properly

  • And I've no idea where this is gone - I don't really remember buying it, but it's clearly OGG so I had the CD at some point
